Active Schools Week and BBQ!

12th Jun 2026

The past week was a fantastic celebration of movement, fun and participation throughout the school.

As part of our Active Schools Week, pupils enjoyed active homework each day, encouraging everyone to stay active both at school and at home. Junior Infants to 2nd Class took part in an exciting boxing lesson, learning new skills and building confidence, while pupils from 3rd to 6th Class are looking forward to their sessions next week.

During break times, children enjoyed skipping and dancing in the yard to music, creating a lively and energetic atmosphere. Our 6th Class pupils also had a great day out in St Anne's, where they played rounders and enjoyed some friendly competition.

On  Thursday, despite the weather (and the tough decision to postpone Sports Day), we made the most of it with a wonderful whole school BBQ. Pupils, staff, parents and members of our wider school community came together to enjoy burgers, salads and delicious desserts. It was fantastic to see everyone mucking in and helping out. From setting up and cooking to serving and cleaning up afterwards, it was a real team effort and a wonderful example of the strong community spirit in our school. A sincere thank you to the PTA and Ms Gordon for organising the event, to Tilly's parents Barry and Joanne from Dash Burger for donation of meats, and to all the parents and volunteers who generously gave their time and support throughout the day.

The week concluded with a fun filled Sports Day. Pupils took part in a wide variety of events and activities, demonstrating excellent teamwork, effort and sportsmanship throughout. A special thank you to Ms McCurtin and again the massive effort of the PTA for their hard work in organising Sports Day and to all the parents who helped out on the day, contributing to such a positive and enjoyable experience for the children.

Active Schools Week was a wonderful reminder of the importance of being active, working together and having fun. Thank you to everyone in our school community who helped make the week such a memorable and successful one for our pupils.
