Ethos
St. Columba's NS is under the patronage of the Church of Ireland, with the Archbishop of Dublin and Glendalough as its patron. As such, the school reflects the general ethos of Church of Ireland schools.
Religious Education occupies a central place in the school curriculum and is regarded as a core subject. The teaching of Christian faith and values is carried out in a respectful and inclusive manner and uses the FollowMe programme.
The school is a community where moral values such as honesty, truthfulness, fairness, sensitivity to others, self respect, self discipline and civic responsibility are nurtured and protected. Pupils are supported in recognising right and wrong behaviour.
All pupils are equally valued and respected regardless of sex, social background, family circumstances, educational ability or physical characteristics. Pupils experience a strong sense of care and belonging and are treated in a fair and supportive manner. Their spiritual, moral and religious development is encouraged alongside their intellectual, social and academic development. The work of the school is carried out in an atmosphere of tolerance and respect for difference. This holistic development is promoted in all aspects of school life, both within and beyond the classroom.
The school community is made up of children, parents and guardians, teachers and management. The constructive support, involvement and interest of parents and guardians is actively encouraged and warmly welcomed.
