6th Class visit to Charleville Mall Library

Our students in 6th class have been studying World War 2 in History class and as a way to bring history to life, they went on a visit to our local Dublin City Council Library at Charleville Mall.

Librarian, Anne Gannon, had a very special treat for the students because, apart from showing the children the exhibition on the North Strand Bombings, she produced a small wooden box which held parts of an incendiary bomb which was dropped on either the North Strand or in Belfast and perhaps more tellingly the munitions lid for one of the large bombs dropped on North Strand on 31st May 1944.

The children were shown how each of the items fitted into the narrative of the bombing and were allowed handle these exceptional artefacts.
